Huawei opens first of three nfv labs
Huawei has launched an NFV open lab in China, where it will put big data at the heart of developing the virtual ecosystem.
The vendor said the new facility will work on overcoming the traditional obstacles to enabling network functions virtualisation, such as ensuring consistency across products from a range of vendors, building interoperability and reliability into services, dealing with the difficulties in integrating new technology and building an ecosystem that reduces costs and leads to new revenue streams.
Huawei intends to use a big data analysis platform that will track the results of ongoing tests and case studies. It will use the platform to develop solutions with operators and partners to produce cross-party solutions.
A separate multi-vendor integration platform will be used to test different NFV scenarios. It works with a range of open-source partnership organisations such as ETSI, OpenStack, OpenDaylight, and OPNFV (Open Platform for NFV) to support the Open NFV initiative.
Dr Howard Liang, Senior Vice President and President of Global Technical Services, Huawei, said: "The NFV open lab is an open innovation centre of ICT convergence dedicated to being open and collaborative, expanding joint service innovations with partners, and developing the open eco-system of NFV to aggregate values and help customers achieve business success."
The lab is the first to open of three that Huawei announced it was building late last year. Two more labs are set to open in Germany and the United States.
China Mobile, Deutsche Telekom, VMware, Red Hat and Canonical were name checked as partners.
